January 2006: For the first time in 30 years, Oxford is developing two new hangars providing an additional 33,000 sq.ft (3,000 m2), of space to the 136,000 sq.ft. (12,700 m2) of hangarage that already exists on the airfield.
Ground breaking commences in February for both facilities, either of which can take the largest of business jet aircraft, namely the Global Express and Gulfstream V, or indeed regional airliner types such as the Dash 8-400 or Fokker 100-sized aircraft. Until now, Oxford's facilities were only sufficient in size for aircraft up to the Dassault Falcon 900 size.
Having already refurbished several of the older facilities with new floors, lighting and cladding, Oxford will now have a range of facilities available for shared or sole, exclusive use from a half Bellman-type hangar at 8,375 sq.ft. (780 m2) to the new Oxonian hangar at 22,000 sq.ft. (2,000 m2).
The new facilities will provide much needed accommodation for both established, growing businesses on the airfield and for new enterprises looking to set up at the airport both securing and creating further employment opportunities.
