Oxford Airport Increases Opening Hours AvailabilityAirplane Logo

Oxford Airport, November 2007 -  Oxford Airport will increase opening hour availability with a fully licensed airfield from 06:30hrs to 22:30hrs weekdays, commencing January 2008.  Weekend access will also be improved with 2 hours additional cover each day.

This will offer a clear advantage over Farnborough, Biggin Hill, Northolt and London City in particular.  Unlike several restricted airports around London, Oxford has the potential to be available from 06:00hrs to midnight, seven days a week and progressive improvements to normal opening hours will be made periodically over the next two years.

Initially, Cat 3 RFFS (Fire) capability will be the standard offering, adequate for mid-size business aircraft on charters and regional aircraft up to Shorts 330 size, but from mid-2008, Cat 4 RFFS will be standard with Cat 5/6 on demand, allowing for the access of any aircraft capable of flying in or out of Oxford commercially.

Earlier starts to compensate for the hour’s time difference with continental Europe and the ability to consider long range overnight runs to the likes of Russia and beyond Europe will now be more readily catered for.

Just over an hour’s drive away from the west end of London, Oxford now represents a convenient, unconstrained and easy access alternative to the established ‘London’ airport choices, outside of the congested London TMA (terminal movement area) airspace with no capacity or slot issues.  Whilst Oxford’s costs are considerably lower than the usual ‘London’ options, it is also notable that traffic on the M40 to Oxford is 120% less than that found on the M1 to Luton and 70% less than that on the M3 to Farnborough.
