Oxfordjet Terminal Now Operational Airplane Logo

23rd July 2008 - Oxford Airport’s new business aviation centre, to be run by oxfordjet, opens its doors today.

The Airport’s first dedicated executive terminal facility was handed over by the prime contractors, Wates Construction, last week.

Paired with many other recent infrastructure enhancements at the airport, the terminal represents some £2.5m of the £15m invested over the last two years including the new runway and ILS system. Oxford is now capable of handling the larger business aircraft types and regional airliners on private charters for the very first time.

Offering three distinct lounge areas along with a large reception zone, the facility will also offer meeting rooms, private rest zones, shower rooms and amenities one would expect to find in a luxury hotel or business centre.

Few general or business aviation airfields in the UK or indeed through the rest of Europe can boast a facility of this standard today. Not only this, Oxford’s facility uniquely complies with the latest UK Department for Transport requirements for airport security measures.

Handling for charters of larger jets and turboprops such as the Dash-8-Q400 (typically 78 seats) is now possible for larger groups wishing to undertake organised trips for conferences, exhibitions or other significant events, either in-bound to Oxford or outbound into the heart of Europe.

The establishment of this new facility turns Oxford into an attractive destination for inward business investment and will further cement the airport’s role as a key support centre for aviation in general with some 700 employees already based at the airport. With over 15 based companies involved in engineering, design, training and specialist organisations such as the Natural Environmental Research Agency hosting aircraft operations at Oxford, the airport is a growing hub of skills and knowledge-based businesses.

With the establishment of the new terminal, the Airport has also recruited a new customer services team of five staff to run the facility, whilst doubling the fire and rescue crew to 22 full-time personnel to allow for the larger aircraft types now catered for.
