There are a number of ways to gain access to aircraft at Oxford without either full ownership or chartering the air taxis, jets, turboprops or helicopters that are based here.
At the higher end of the business aviation spectrum, for over 10 years now in Europe, the Netjets company has dominated the fractional ownership market. This is an alternative to chartering on an ad-hoc basis, where availability might occasionally be a problem, or outright aircraft ownership with all the burden of running an aeroplane yourself. One simply buys a share of an aircraft which is then managed and operated by a third party on your behalf.
In the case of Netjets, one has a choice of different aircraft types and different levels of equity in a specific type. Dependant on the size of the shareholding, one is entitled to varying amounts of time on the aircraft. Most such schemes also provide an aircraft to meet your needs from any two points in Europe without having to pay the additional cost of positioning the aircraft to pick you up or to return back to a nominal home base (unlike most charter options). Typically, with as little as 10 hours notice, one can pick up a phone and say you want an aircraft to collect you say from Oxford to go to Nice - and that's it, the aircraft will be there at the prescribed time and you simply drive up to the jet's door and get on board - no check-in, no lost luggage, just arrive and go.
At the lower end of the aviation market, a number of lower-cost alternatives are being established, some for non-pilots and others for those with their own pilot's licence, but for whom whole aircraft ownership is too costly or burdensome. These alternatives are bringing the entry level costs of private or business usage of modern aircraft right down to levels which to date have never been attainable.
Below are highlighted some such 'general aviation' schemes as well as the better known business jet-based shared use alternatives:

A great majority of Netjets Europe's clients are based in the city of London where access to London City Airport has been a significant driver behind their recent growth.
